What does 'general public' mean? There are over 7 billioooon people out there.

If you want a quick and simple answer, go search the internet for a huge poll and huge statistics based on ethnicity, age, sex and so on and so forth.

If you just want opinions from users based on their experience and the environment they live in, oh well, I can say Romania is not on top of the list. They used to air classic anime like DBZ, Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Digimon somewhere around 1997-1998, when we barely got rid of communism and people had no anime culture whatsoever. They probably thought them as cartoons, along with Scooby Doo, Captain Planet and you get it. Nowadays, if you go ask someone about Dragon Ball, they'd be like 'oh that old cartoon with saiyans' or 'oh that old cartoon with Goku' and that's all. Even youngsters (<20) who watch anime have Naruto as an iconic anime in mind. DBZ would be seen as 'old graphics bleah'. It's not even on TV anymore. That's mostly the reason why I came and registered on a ?British DB forum, because here I barely have anyone to discuss Dragon Ball with.

About other countries and ethnicities, I wouldn't know.

It was huge 15 or so years ago. I'd imagine it's still extremely popular and known to people in their early 20s to early 30s.

In my experience when i was in school i asked 3 of my freinds if they knew about it and have watched it. and i got three answers.

1. Ive heard about but never watched
2. I hate it
3. Never heard about it.

And these people where and are pretty much anime only. But then again all 3 favorite anime is fairy tail. And one did not know who Godzilla was.

It the most well known anime for sure. Huge fan base. So much that they started mentioning it in shows these days.

@Baduser

Not necessarily a British DBZ forum, just the domain is British. The owner who started this whole show is American. British domain was cheaper.

It's a behemoth. Everyone who knows what anime is knows DBZ.
It's most people's first anime, For me DBZ was. Only mangas that are as or more popular have to be One Piece(even then, It's in japan, not worldwide) and arguably Naruto.

It's a minority.

I've ran into people who don't even know what anime is and yet they know what DBZ is.
